i have always worked with my hands. i learned to knit at 8 years of age and began to
make my clothes at 13, with the quilts emerging a few years later. art and craft has
been a constant friend to me through the cycles and lessons of life. not unlike the
use of prayer beads and meditations that help to keep us centered, craft can also link
us to the mystery of creation in a useful way that enriches our lives.
i call my wall hangings "the edge of chaos" for many reasons. quiltmaking has been
quietly morphing for some years now....new fabrics, techniques, and designs have come
together to push the limits far beyond our grandmothers' potential in days passed.
the paradigm shift has arrived.
i refer to my newer pieces as color studies in fabric because they work
a process beyond the confines of normal design and free me from the constriction
of matching anything in particular, with the focus on the color. i love the abstract
nature of this style for the visual relief it offers from order and conceptual thought.
i hope that you might enjoy some of that relief as well while you view this work.
